In her gorgeous new video for "Gratitude," UK rapper Little Simz offers up a brief but touching portrait of South Africa in a moment of protest. Students calling for a stop to tuition hikes poured into the streets and squares of Cape Town, and in the midst of it all Simz captured something unforgettable--scenes that no director's storyboard could have hoped to manifest.
In an interview with Red Bull, Simz stressed that shooting in Cape Town was a way for her to "reconnect with a place that’s close to me."
"I still have family there, but I've honestly not made the effort to reach out. It had to happen in my own time. My mum kept saying 'You need to go, you need to go'. But I had to do it for myself," she said. Little Simz worked with her longtime collaborator director Jeremy Cole for the "Gratitude" clip, and their creative synergy helps make the clip bristle with rapt emotion; watch the video below, and take a glance at Little Simz's new set of 2016 tour dates after the jump.
