Amongst hip hop's upper echelon, there may not be two more celebrated emcees than KRS-One and Rakim. Each are cherished for their unquantifiable contributions to the craft of rhyme-slaying; Rakim for his supreme pen, KRS for his insurmountable consciousness and treatment of hip-hop as way of life.
So when the two happen to meet off-the-cut, it's a moment for pause, attention and reflection. Recently the world was treated to precisely this sort of meeting of legendary minds, where the two GOATs sat opposite one another and discussed Rakim's beginnings as an emcee, as well as the many influences that played a part in his sharpening and refinement. The God MC chalks his iconic cadence and sense of rhythm up to an early stint as a sax player (go figure,) a love for John Coltrane and a family filled with musicians and vocalists that helped guide his word.
It's a rare moment with Kid Wizard, finding him candid and introspective as ever, and it's all been captured by the good folks over at Boom Bap Nation for your viewing and learning pleasure. Watch as Rakim and KRS-One chop it up down below and hold tight for the next transmission from these two legends, still ripe with wisdom.
