With close to one month to go, the Meow The Jewels campaign has raised over $10,000 toward the 40K price tag attached to the cat sounds remix of Killer Mike and El-P‘s forthcoming Run The Jewels 2 LP, due out October 27th. The campaign launched by one of their fans has already garnered the support of El-P, who has pledged to donate his portion of the proceeds from the sale of the project to charity. Killer Mike is reportedly still in talks with the folks running the campaign but has noted that he intends to donate any potential earnings from the project to a fund that will benefit the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown, both of whom were slain by police in recent months. The Kickstarter campaign page breaks down the specifics behind the fundraising effort and details exactly how the money be allotted to cover production costs and payment of the MC’s:
We have El-P’s full support going into this project, and I am in regular contact with him. I am raising the 40k to pay for the “Meow The Jewels” album to be made. El-P has publicly stated (via twitter: @TheRealElP) that he will donate HIS money to a charity directly benefiting the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown. So that being said THIS KICKSTARTER IS NOT RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITY….ALL MONEY RAISED WILL BE USED TO PAY EL-P AND KILLER MIKE TO CREATE THE “MEOW THE JEWELS” ALBUM,$40000 will be used to pay Run The Jewels. $2050 will be used for Kickstarter Fees $2050 will be used for the ‘Amazon Payment‘ fees. $1000 has been allocated for rewards/shipping.
