Kid Cudi Talks Musical Beginnings On 'Chelsea Lately'

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Kid Cudi stopped by the set of Chelsea Lately to wax a bit with guest-host Gabourey Sidibe. With a surprise album (doing the Bey) debuting at the top of iTunes and featured role in the silver screen treatment of Need For Speed, it would seem as though there was plenty to get through. However, Sidibe chose to go the way of the Yenta, joyfully speaking to an Oscar's party Cudi and her ran into one another at, then transitioning to a bit of fodder on the new record, leaving the film-spot out of it for the most part.

Cudi did get the opportunity to divulge some intimate tales as to his musical beginnings and relocation to NYC, explaining that the conceptual period for his smash debut "Day N' Nite" took place when he was working with long-time friend and producer Dot da Genius at a security company running night shifts and spitting verses into his Sidekick (jeez, remember those?) All in all, it was a candid and casual sit-down with a sunny and cheerful Cudi. You can watch Kid Cudi's short interview with Gabourey Sidibe below. Cop Satellite Flight: The journey to Mother Moon is available now via iTunes.
