Kamasi Washington Shows Off His Crate-Digging Skills At LA's Amoeba Music

Kamasi Washington Amoeba Music

Kamasi Washington recently paid a visit to Los Angeles's legendary record shop Amoeba Music, where he was all too happy to share the spoils of his crate-digging. The jazz saxophonist (who released one of the year's finest LPs with The Epic) and while many of his chosen purchases in this "What's In My Bag?" episode are indeed jazz recordings, he mixes it up with afrobeat, classic funk and a bit of Japanese anime cinema. Somewhere, Thundercat's beard just went super-saiyan.

The full list of Kamasi's cuts are on display over at Amoeba's website, but in the clip he also breaks down his loving rationale for picking out records by the likes of Fela Kuti, Curtis Mayfield, Max Roach, Jason Moran and more.

Watch the full "What's in my bag?" clip below, pick up your own copy of The Epic, either on iTunes of on vinyl, and check out Washington's tour schedule for the first part of 2016 after the jump.
