K-os Returns With The Vintage-Tinged Single "Crucify" Ahead Of New LP

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

K-os is in the midst of a triumphant return, and on his new single "Crucify" the Canadian man of many talents delivers a vintage-inspired gem. Guitars and piano tangle over a just-right relaxed drum beat as the MC spills ink on what it means to stand by one's principles, be above the shifting trends and speak the truth. The track is a preview of what's to come on K-os's new LP, Can't Fly Without Gravity, which is due out August 28th on Dine Alone Records.

"After writing the song, I started to realize that it's just the natural order of life--sometimes what makes someone seem crucified is just speaking the truth," K-os told Okayplayer. "If you dwell too much on your success level in the game, you can become jaded to what success really is. If you can keep doing waht you do and enjoying it, then you'll always be around." In seeking out his identity as a Toronto-bred Canadian MC, K-os acknowledges that his career has been a journey of growth, and sees Can't Fly Without Gravity as his greatest achievement.

"The level that hip-hop was when I was a kid, I couldn't imagine playing on that level...I think I've finally caught up to being able to present music in the same realm of ATCQ or de La Soul. It's taken me this long to figure out what those guys are doing, and this record is me finally being able to exemplify that." K-os will play the Squamish Music Festival in British Columbia on August 8th before embarking on a fall tour across North America in support of his new work.
