John Legend's burgeoning career as a producer continues. The modern paragon of R&B and Soul will be executive producing a new drama, Underground, on WGN. The first teaser trailer for the scripted series has been made available to the world.

Billboard reports that Underground will debut in early 2016, telling "the emotional stories of plantation slaves trying to fight for freedom and flee the war through the Underground Railroad."

From the brief but riveting trailer, we can see that Underground will feature black slaves torn between steadfast faith and unnecessary violence, and once you push play on the clip below you'll see just what we mean. John Legend is executive producing along with Misha Green and Joe Pokaski of Heroes, and Jussie Smollett (Empire), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Friday Night Lights), Chris Meloni (Law and Order: SVU) and Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton) are set to star in the production.

And of course, we'd be remiss not to mention the apparent soundtrack, which features the prominent use of A$AP Rocky's Miguel and Rob Stewart-fueled "Everyday."

Watch the new trailer below and be ready for plenty more insights into Underground coming in the next few weeks.
