Joey bad ass tim westwood 192x128
Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era have spent their summer playing several European and Canadian festivals as of late, and whilst in London Bada$$ and crew dropped by Tim Westwood's wax archive to lay down a freestyle for Westwood's "Crib Session Freestyle" series. The "bad mon" rapped over hit boys "Grinding my whole life", Heartbreak Drake's "0 to 100", and Mike Will Made It young signees Rae Sremmud's "No Flex Zone." It was cool, and definitely unexpected, to hear Joey rapping over contemporary sounding instrumentals.
In between touring and righteous Tweeting, Joey's been in the studio preparing for the release of his debut solo album B4.DA.$$ (B4 DA Money Hungry), and fans are ready to eat, wishing Joey would drop sum already and flooding Twitter with off count memes about what they "will be like" when he does. Also, less than twenty four hours ago Bada$$ released a short film in collaboration with Green Label--Mountain Dew's digital lifestyle venture--titled No Regrets, written and shot by award-winning Queens director Rik Cordero, and scored by Statik Selektah. No Regrets is set in 2062 where Bada$$ is bald, in an all brown everything suit and seemingly sad, taking a retrospective look into his life and the choices he made as a young man and artist. Check out Joey's acting chops, and a pleasantly surprising plot twist.
And for you visual artists, Joey announced a B4.DA.$$ cover design contest on twitter Sunday of last week...and by Tuesday he was asking fans to try harder. So there's still a chance and some time for hopefuls with a more complex vision for the Bad One. Check out how much his hair has grown since No Regrets, not-rapping-on-an-old-school-beat Joey in the Westwood freestyle and his cute two step in the video below. And if you happen to be in Canada this weekend check him and friends out at the Osheaga Festival in Montreal.
