LargeUp Video: Jillionaire [Of Major Lazer] Drops His Summer Ready Solo Joint "Fresh"
Jillionaire, one third of Major Lazer, is usually spotted alongside his counterparts Diplo and Walshy Fire. However, we knew the musical renaissance man long before he linked up with the dancehall influenced electronic group – Jillionaire has been connecting the dots between the Caribbean and electronic music scenes worldwide. Between being on the road with Major Lazer and having his hand in various side projects the producer recently started his own record label Feel Up Records. The results of the Brooklyn based imprint, which launched on April 22nd, have been pretty epic and include the Okayplayer audio premiere of Grand Analog’s “Howl” (Like Wolves) and Jillionaire’s latest jam “Fresh” which amps things up electronically with a video that will be a staple of your summer. It may be Jillionaire’s first single on the new label but Major Lazer started playing it late last year and it dropped yesterday on BBC Radio 1Xtra. The single was co-produced by Salvatore Ganacci and features the Mr. Lexx-like vocal stylings of Sanjin (both of Sweden via the Balkans) delivering the club banging blend of dancehall and EDM that has always been a crowd-pleaser.
“Fresh” is an eclectic electronic track that keeps Caribbean back beats leaving the video’s dancers a lot to work with in terms of rhythm (Yes, there is twerking… in the snow!). The KarmaloopTV Original was directed by the company’s own Shomi Patwary who decided to showcase the dance team (which includes Major Lazer bad gyal Mela Murder) in what will soon be melting snow. The ladies bring the heat to frigid New York with their dope and intricate dance moves. The video features cameo appearances by Swedish producer Youthman, Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire and more. You’ll be able to officially celebrate the approaching summer season when the single drops on April 30th available through iTunes and Beatport in the US. Stream the “Fresh” video below!
