Jill Scott x The Breakfast Club Interview

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

The proverbial queen of contemporary Philly soul, Miss Jill Scott stopped by the studio of New York's own Power 105.1 to discuss where the songstress has been this past year, and what we can look forward to in the year to come on the morning show The Breakfast Club. Jilly from Philly has been quite the busy bee, recording two new LPs, the first of which will be tentatively titled The Lullaby Album featuring an exclusive collaboration with fellow neo-soul pioneer Robert Glasper, describing it as "the most exciting project she's ever been apart of."  The LP is due at the end of the year, and is sure to be a delight. The second LP is slated to be finished later this year and will allegedly feature collaborations with David Banner, Ne-Yo and 9th Wonder, cementing an attempt at a more vast audience.

Other topics discussed include the balancing of her passions for recording and acting with her role in the upcoming film Baggage Claim and two recording projects underway. The accomplished dual threat artist also described her experience filming her HBO series No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency in Africa, and the subsequent cancellation of the show after the untimely deaths of both of the show's creators. Embellishing on her trips to Africa, she describes the enormous disparity between the public's perceptions of the continent and the enormous cultural and monetary wealth she experienced during her 7 month stay, not to mention the imminent influence of the experience on her music and upcoming albums. With so much in the works from Jill, the latter half of 2013 is set to be a promising one for Miss Scott, closing the year with what is sure to be a dynamite performance New Year's Eve in NYC at Radio CIty Music Hall. Be sure to check out the incredibly open interview with the neo-soul queen below, and check back for details on her forthcoming projects and ticket info for NYE.
