The actress appeared in an episode from the fourth season of The Boondocks.
With The Boondocks returning in 2020, it’s unknown if John Witherspoon, the voice behind the series’ beloved Robert “Grandad” Freeman, had already recorded parts for the forthcoming series or not prior to his death. Still, some fans have suggested that actress Jenifer Lewis should serve as Grandad’s successor.
It was songwriter Durand Bernarr who made the suggestion on Twitter and Instagram, posting:
Picture it: Granddad passes away in The Boondocks opening of the 5th season and the boys are sent to live with Granddad’s sister: played by Jenifer Lewis. She’s the ONLY one I can think to keep that same energy.

A number of users endorsed the suggestion, mentioning Lewis’ name on both Bernarr’s Twitter and Instagram post. Lewis herself chimed in via Instagram.
“Thank you one and all. I’ll check into this,” she responded. “It would be fun. I miss my John Witherspoon. He gave us so much so much love and laughter y’all.”
Lewis has appeared on The Boondocks before. She portrayed characters Geraldine and Boss Willona on episodes “Early Bird Special” and “Breaking Grandad,” respectively. Both episodes were from the fourth season of The Boondocks.
