Jamila Woods Lilts Over The Roots Flip Of J Dilla On New Single "Heavn"

First-Look-Friday-Jamila-Woods-Interview Photo by Johnny Fan for Okayplayer

Over the last year, the voice of Jamila Woods has proved to be as inescapable as the very presence of her fellow Chicagoans, currently dominating every corner of r&b and hip-hop. We were first introduced to her as one half of the Windy City soul outfit, Milo & Otis. Not much later, she was prominently featured on Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment's breakout gospel-toting single "Sunday Candy" alongside Chance The Rapper, who called upon her airy and warm lilt for his latest single "Blessings," debuted on The Tonight Show just last week. And now, with Chano's Chance3 just a day away (and her own solo project in the works,) Woods is gearing up for an extended stay in the spotlight, and well deserved at that. Today, she treats fans to a potent flip of The Roots' interpretation of J Dilla's "Eve" a la Dilla Joints, lacing the track with romantics and melodics. You can hear the latest from Jamila Woods down below, just be sure to keep your ear to the ground for your girl. It doesn't seem there's any stopping her now.
