OKP Premiere: Stream James Tillman's Dreamy Debut EP 'Shangri La' In Full
James Tillman opens windows to Rio with the drop of his four track debut EP but as the title suggests, Shangri La transports the listener to a place that is at once loftier and more utopian than Brazil's largest metropolis. We gave y'all the scoop just a few weeks back with the First Look premiere(s) of some sights and sounds from this new voice on the OKP scene, namely the track "Love Within" and the day-in-the-life visual for "And Then..," but its time to roll out the persian carpet out for the full project. The weave certainly has threads of samba and bossa running through it--having been recorded in its entirety in Brazil--but the most telling sonic marks on this piece are the deep organic soul ballads, sounding more Al Green ca. Let's Stay Together or even Marvin's Here, My Dear with Tillman's airy yet intimate croon bringing the soulful strut of legends past to light once more.
The New School jazz scholar will be hitting a dimly-lit stage for an appropriately intimate performance this Wednesday evening at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC (cop tickets via TicketFly.) And what better way to experience these scintillating love songs than up close and personal ? Tillman's debut EP Shangri La is available to stream below and if your ears are pleased (as we're sure they will be) preorder the album via Bandcamp and have these melodies waiting for you at midnight. Keep it locked for more from the young crooner as his personal Shangri La opens its windows to the wider world tomorrow.
