Jaden Smith Offering Square
Despite already making news for certain other reasons this week, Jaden Smith is back in the spotlight once more after uploading a brand new single--one that's right in step with his burgeoning hip-hop catalog. Propped up by dusty drums, jazz piano, trumpet, and broad upright bass tones, Smith's new track "Offering" is positively gorgeous, production wise. Lyrically it's another step forward for the young MC. Smith raps at length about a myriad of topics, one of which being his own superstar father. With a flow that's assertive despite Smith's tender teenage years, "Offering" is another privileged glimpse, an aural progress report as Jaden continues to work on honing his craft. The consensus at the Okayplayer office is that the entire affair comes off like some quality early-era Lupe Fiasco: smart, eager, and draped in the warmth of vintage jazz.
Smith shared the track via a tweet earlier today, one in which he assured "This Is My Offering To The World. One Day....We Will All Understand."
It's honestly been something of a Jaden Smith dry spell as of late, given that the last time we heard new material from the youngster it February and there was still snow on the ground. One day we will all understand what Jaden's up to with these relentless surprise tracks, but for now simply enjoy "Offering" (which was uploaded to his sister Willow's Soundcloud account) below.
