Singer ILoveMakonnen

ILoveMakonnen, the singer most known for his hit song "Tuesday," has come out as gay.

"Someone said to me next time they see me, they was gonna f*ck me, I said next time I see me, I'm gonna love me up," he tweeted early Friday morning. "As a fashion icon, I can't tell u about everybody else's closet, I can only tell u about mine, and it's time I've come out."

"And since y'all love breaking news, here's some old news to break, I'm gay. And now I've told u about my life, maybe u can go life [sic] yours."

As Pitchfork pointed out, ILoveMakonnen has spoken out against homophobia in hip-hop before. In an interview from April 2016 with XXL, he spoke abut the issue in detail.

"One thing about hip-hop and rap that really gets on my nerve is that they got so much shit to say about gays, lesbians and so anti-gay, all that is just a lot of shit where they want to say f----t and gay bashing. All these designers that y’all are spending on are the gayest n---as in the world," he said. "And if you don’t know that you’re the dumbest n---as in the world. So y’all need to stop saying all that gay this, gay that like it’s something wrong with that shit when your bitch ass feels better about themselves in this gay designer shoes or this gay designer clothes. So you going to be bashing gay people, you know what I’m saying? I’m here to break all that bullshit. I may not personally be gay but I got gay friends and people on earth that do what the fuck they do and they need to be accepted as well."

ILoveMakkonen became popular in 2014, when Drake remixed his song "Tuesday." The song peaked at no. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the music video has more than 138 million views on YouTube. After a brief relationship with Drake's OVO Sound, he cut ties with the label.
