Hudson Mohawke Drops Bloody, Beautiful Video For "Very First Breath"
Like an unreleased Blade Runner video game come to life, Hudson Mohawke's new video for "Very First Breath" ripples with strange colors and futuristic beauty. Mohawke's track--a synthetic love anthem that packs razor-edged synths and emotive vocals from Irfane--gets immersed in a New York City love story. There's neon reflections of Chinatown, vacant Brooklyn lots, strange mists and one of the most vicious love story surprises we've seen in quite some time. Director Sam De Jong seems to have seized upon the aesthetic of neo-noir films like 2013's Only God Forgives, rendering a kind of polychrome darkness that fits HudMo's stylings like a tailored, blood-stained glove.
"Very First Breath" is an advance single off of Mohawke's upcoming LP Lantern, which is scheduled to drop on June 16th and features guest vocals from the likes of Miguel, Antony Hegarty and Jhené Aiko. Mohawke is also currently in the midst of an expansive worldwide tour (one which includes a stop at our very own Roots Picnic party in Philadelphia). Pre-order Lantern on iTunes, read a full list of Hudson Mohawke's tour dates below, and, of course, watch the dazzling brand new video for "Very First Breath."
