Pass The Popcorn: A Harriet Tubman Biopic Is In The Works

She took Andrew Jackson's spot on the face of the 20 dollar bill, and now, it appears Harriet Tubman will be grabbing a spot in your local theater. According to Deadline, a biopic treatment for the late abolitionist and civil rights icon is in the works. Harriet, as the film is currently and aptly titled at the moment, will be directed by Seith Mann (whose resume boasts some of television's most acclaimed titles including, The Wire, Entourage, Heroes, Dexter, Homeland, The Walking Dead and plenty more) and will be produced by Charles D. King, who is the very first and only black man to rise from mailroom to executive in William Morris' century-plus of operating.

Those familiar with Tubman's tale already know just how screen-worthy a narrative it is, beginning in slavery, escaping and embarking upon a dozen missions to rescue her nearest and dearest. Later she served as a scout in the Union Army and an avid activist in the fight for women's suffrage, but died six years short of seeing the nineteenth amendment passed. No timeline has been set for the film's release just yet, but we're sure it won't be long now until production starts. Hopefully, the film will arrive before (or even just as) Tubman's face hits the $20 note in 2020.
