Ghostface Killah x Badbadnotgood - "Street Knowledge" (ft. Tree)

Ghostface Killah & BADBADNOTGOOD Link w/ MF DOOM For "Ray Gun"

Ghostface Killahand jazz trio Badbadnotgood have been riding high off a steady stream of collaborative releases, prepping the world for their full-length collaboration record Sour Soul. Now, it seems, we've been doled one more treat ahead of the LP's looming release, a retro-styled track entitled "Street Knowledge." The track features more of the raspy, relentless bars that the Ghostface has always been known for, and includes a jump-off feature from the vastly underrated Chicago MC Tree. Spitting a challenge for any bookish foes that think they have the streets figured out, both Tree and the Wu Tang alumnus throw red-hot darts all over this one.

BBNG's production (aka live recorded performance) might be the champion here, however. Their tremolo-heavy track is something straight out of 1960s Hollywood, at once both romantic, sci-fi and fun. It's definitely retro without a shred of campy posturing--the closest thing to a Twin Peaks scene made rap beat in recent memory. Drummer Alex Sowinski keeps things tastefully retrained throughout the entire tune, as does bassist Chester Hansen--that is until he rises up to take the lead after Killah has spit his verse and faded back into the mist.

Sour Soul will drop on February 24th, but you can preorder your copy via iTunes today. As you do so, listen to past Ghostface Killah x Badbadnotgood collabs, including "Ray Gun," "Gunshowers" and their Danny Brown-powered "Six Degrees".
