The two Democratic presidential candidates made the tweets on what would’ve been Trayvon Martin's 25th birthday.

George Zimmerman is suing two Democratic presidential candidates for tweets they made honoring Trayvon Martin, the Black teen he fatally shot in 2012.

In a report from Yahoo! News, Zimmerman filed a lawsuit against Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg, claiming that the two were committing "defamation with actual malice or at a minimum a reckless disregard for the truth." The lawsuit cited the presidential candidates' respective tweets honoring Martin and his birthday, who would have turned 25 on February 5.

"My heart goes out to @SybrinaFulton and Trayvon's family and friends. He should still be with us today," Warren wrote. "We need to end gun violence and racism. And we need to build a world where all of our children—especially young Black boys — can grow up safe and free."

"Trayvon Martin would have been 25 today. How many 25th birthdays have been stolen from us by white supremacy, gun violence, prejudice, and fear?," Buttigieg wrote in his tweet.

Zimmerman's lawsuit is seeking $15,000 in damages, while alleging the Democratic candidates wrongly connected the shooting victim’s death to gun violence. In December last year, Zimmerman sued Martin's family and Florida prosecutors for $100 million.
