Four Tet Shares A Personal Deep Cut With " BACK2THESTART"

Mixtape Mondays: fourtet

The amount of music sitting on the home hard drives of Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet, is likely enough to pack clubs and crash servers across the globe. Wednesday night, the UK electronic icon gave us a new taste of what his personal stash sounds like with "BACK2THESTART," a relentless house track that shuffles to and fro beneath soulful, caring vocals and a recurring hum recalls the work of his sometimes-collaborator Burial.

Clocking in at over seven minutes, "BACK2THESTART" offers up meditations of love and starting over while its kick drum pulses relentlessly. Listening to it with eyes closed and, ideally, body in motion, the song gives the feeling of arrival and departures--of travel beyond the routes our own legs can carry us on. "Made this on a plane end of last year," Four Tet wrote in a tweet as he posted the track online. "[N]ot sure what I was thinking or why it exists." He admitted that the track was born out of a search for pirated "acappella" material, and now we're all able to reap the benefits of his creative divination. "BACK2THESTART" was championed by the BBC's Annie Mac a while back, while Hypetrak is reporting that it made its debut during a set prepared for Rinse FM last year. All that truly matters, though, is that it's here. Listen below and prepare to lose yourself.
