Fashion Friday: Adidas x Rita Ora, Opening Ceremony x Magritte + Buraka Som Sistema x REST OF THE WORLD

Ever-innovating brand leaders Adidas are back in our Fashion Friday headline this week, Following successful collaborations with Kanye West, Mary Katrantzou and Pharrell, they just revealed that Rita Ora will be the artist collaborator for the next season. Responding to the news, Rita Ora said:

'I'm a massive fan of the brand. I grew up working at a sneaker store when I was 16 and am a huge sneaker head. It's so cool that I'm able to do this with a brand that I sold when I was younger'.

The British singer is arguably the perfect choice for this edition of the series with her wide embrace of street wear, high fashion and flashy colors. She is also conscious of the challenge presented by the partnership, which has featured incredible work from established designers like Rick Owens, Raf Simons and Jeremy Scott in past collaborations. She explained her approach to the project during a recent chat with Womens Wear Daily:

'I always come from the approach that they are designers and I am an artist'

Adidas has reportedly encouraged Ora to:

'Be yourself and be confident in what you're doing and confident in what you wear'

Ora's reign will begin on August 2nd and impact all aspects of the brand from apparel and footwear to outerwear and accessories. She will remain in her position with Adidas through the next three seasons, with the collaboration set to wrap in Fall '15. Adidas keeps the momentum going with new projects for the summer. Taking advantage of the influence of social media, the brand serves up a new way to customize your kicks with the Adidas Originals relaunch of miAdidas. Now, you'll be able to make your own statement by applying any photographic image through an innovative high resolution photo print APP in order to style your pair of ZX Flux. The APP will be available from August 2014 for iPhone and Android. You can already see some examples here.

Speaking of Pharrell, his new unisex fragrance (designed in collaboration with COMME des GARÇONS) has been released, perhaps confusingly named for his new album G I R L. On the plus, each bottle is a work of art from NY-based graf/fine artist KAWS. In other style news, Quvenzhane Wallis of Beasts Of The Southern Wild ferocity has been named the new face of Armani Junior.

Next up, Atlanta-based label Wish has teamed with Southern California's Publish brand to deliver a capsule collection for Spring/Summer 14. The collection dubbed 'The Isolation' features five solid pieces. The brands are offering fashionable sportswear garments that are stylish and suitable for those looking to stand out in any climate. The bucket hat has quickly established itself as a summertime staple. The collaborative collection went up for sale on May 21st at Wish ATL, Publish brand stores and selected online retailers.

Our friends at Opening Ceremony introduced a new artsy collection featuring ready-to-wear pieces that draw inspiration from Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte's work. The brilliant, wide range of pieces came out really great. From coats, sweatshirts, trousers, t-shirts to a small range capsule collection of limited Vans, everything about this project gives a well-rounded look.

Last but not least, the band Buraka Som Sistema launched a brand new fashion label, REST OF THE WORLD. The label features a unisex streetwear line of sweatshirts and t-shirts. The garments are made from 100% natural fibers and manufactured by local production units in the North of Portugal. Photographed by Matilde Travassos, the lookbook is pretty simple and clean, and features charismatic Bissau-Guinean model Fernando Cabral. This is just the beginning of the design work from London-based Portuguese artist Mr. Phomer. With Branko and Kalaf driving the creative direction, the brand's future is undoubtedly bright. For now, you can purchase these pieces exclusively at the Enchufada online store.
