Mass Appeal‘s Rhythm Roulette may have been on a bit of a hiatus, but as of last week, the beat constructing olympics are back and with the (rather unwelcome) force of Sprite behind them. Towering corporate sponsors aside, the show has managed to maintain its veil of excellence, tapping Manny Fresh for the first time back, and now the masterful MPC wizard Exile for this week’s equally dazzling display. Exile is, of course, known for his uncanny ability to freak the drum machine, but here, puts it all on the line, picking his three bullets and crafting a dynamic palette of compositions, ranging from the trap-inflected to the boom-bap, all with just a trio of random recordings picked with expert intuition. Now, one of the many drawbacks of this revamped series (outside of the blatant branding) is the fact that we no longer have the opportunity to see exactly which records made it into the haul, but even with that, there’s plenty to take in. Watch as Exile put on a clinic in the latest episode of Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette below and hold tight for the next transmission. Cue: Below The Heavens.
