Denzel Washington's Sam Chisholm Is 'The Man' In 'Magnificent Seven' Vignette

Pass The Popcorn: Denzel Has A Magnificent Mustache In 'The Magnificent Seven' Reboot Trailer

As The Magnificent Seven nears its theatrical release date, a teaser trailer has dropped spotlighting Denzel Washington's character, Sam Chisholm.

The short clip shows Washington in all of his bounty hunter glory, as he leads six other mercenaries to protect the town of Rose Krick from industrialist Bartholomew Bogue.

"The captain's name is Sam Chisolm, he's a duly sworn warrant officer from Wichita, Kansas," Washington says in the video. "He's the bounty hunter that goes after bad guys," adds director Antoine Fuqua. "The journey really begins there."

The video then proceeds to showcase Washington taking out a number of enemies with the utmost ease, reminding viewers why he's arguably one of the best actors of all time.

The Magnificent Seven, which also features Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio, will open the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 8.

"This will be my third time bringing a film to Toronto, and having The Magnificent Seven selected as the opening night film is a true honor," said Fuqua in a statement. "I can't think of a better place, or a better crowd for the film's World Premiere."

The forthcoming film serves as the third movie Washington and Fuqua have worked together on, with their first being the critical and commercial crime thriller hit Training Day.

It'll be interesting to see what Fuqua does differently with his remake of The Magnificent Seven, a 1960 western that was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (made in 1954). But considering he has Washington portraying the lead role the movie is already off to a good start.

Aside from this Washington will reportedly serve a special role in a forthcoming documentary about jazz legend John Coltrane. The 61-year-old actor will narrate Coltrane's own words in Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary. The film will be directed by John Scheinfeld, and is also debuting at TIFF.
