We've been keeping tabs on Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary for a minute, the forthcoming film telling the story of the iconic jazz saxophonist through a number of artists and public figures, and even John Coltrane himself (with a little help from Denzel Washington).

Now a new trailer for the movie has dropped, which features former president Bill Clinton and guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana speaking about Coltrane's legacy.

"I just thought, 'Oh, my God, this guy, his mind and his heart is so there in a place that everybody ought to reach for,'" says Clinton in one part of the promo clip. As for Santana he emphasizes the deep spiritual power of Coltrane's music, comparing the saxophonist to "an archangel of the highest order." The montage also features an account of the writing of Coltrane's seminal album, 1965's A Love Supreme.

As the two and a half minute video transitions to discussing A Love Supreme, Washington begins to narrate.

"This album is a humble offering to him, an attempt to say thank you God. Through our work, even as we do through our hearts and with our tongues. May he help and strengthen all men in every good endeavor," Washington states, speaking to Coltrane's dedication of the album to God.

Directed by John Scheinfeld and produced by Spencer ProfferChasing Trane is debuting at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. A film synopsis provides even more details on the movie:

"Revolutionary artist and innovator, John Coltrane expanded the frontiers of his craft by introducing elements from musical traditions the world over. Chasing Trane reveals the critical events, passions, experiences, and challenges that shaped the life of John Coltrane and his revolutionary sounds. It is a story of demons and darkness, of persistence and redemption. Above all else, it is the incredible spiritual journey of a man who found himself and, in the process, created an extraordinary body of work that transcends all barriers of geography, race, religion and age."
