Daniel Caesar Connects With Kali Uchis On "Get You"

Daniel Caesar, a 21 year old singer songwriter hailing from Toronto, has steadily made a name for himself within the city's music scene.

Blending rock, R&B, soul and gospel, Caesar already has four EPs under his belt, creating his first project Praise Break shortly after graduating high school.

Now, Caesar is premiering a new song featuring the one and only Kali Uchis. Titled "Get You," the track served as one of the premieres that dropped during an episode of Carl Chery's The Cosign on Apple Music's Beats 1 Radio.

Although it's unknown if "Get You" comes from a forthcoming project from Caesar or not, it surely serves as a reminder of the artist's gradual rise, as well as what he's offering differently from his Toronto contemporaries. Vulnerable and strongly influenced by his upbringing in church, Caesar's music is refreshing and real.

"I've had it described to me as 'new soul,' so I kind of ran with that," Caesar said in an interview with BuzzFeed in 2014. "My producers only produce hip hop music and more classic R&B, so it's been an adventure for all of us making [the EP]."

He also added: "My music is for absolutely everyone — religious or non religious. What I'm doing with my music is telling a story. So while there's a lot of religion being discussed, there is a lot of sinning being discussed as well. I like to keep things — not to sound cliche or anything — I want to sound as real as possible."

Aside from "Get You" with Kali Uchis, Caesar has also worked with Kaytranada collaborators River Tiber and BadBadNotGood, on tracks "West" and "Paradise," respectively. The latter has become a popular one for Caesar, with fans comparing the track to Frank Ocean.
