By now you should already know that there's something cooking in the Gorillaz camp. Most of what we know has come by way of artist Jamie Hewlett's Instagram account (or Gorillaz fan accounts, more recently) but according to a new interview with the cartoon band's musical component, Damon Albarn, seems to hint that a new album may arrive much sooner than we had initially expected.
Speaking with BBC 6 Radio, Albarn claimed that the new piece "should be ready fairly soon" after weighing in with "I'm loving and it's getting there." Both of these statements seem to contradict Hewlett's original ETA of 2017, but we're certainly not mad about it. It's been five years since the duo released Plastic Beach, at least two years since we've seen or heard a sign of Gorillaz life. And the world is certainly ready for it. The most promising movement on the Gorillaz front has come with the arrival of freshly-retouched videos, which now bear the pristine high-def marks of the new age.
Again, there's really no telling, even with Albarn's remarks, when the album will arrive, but something is coming. And hopefully the wait won't break anyone.
