Dam-Funk And Nite Jewel Make Magic With New 'Nite-Funk' EP

Hear Two New Instrumentals From Dam-Funk

After making music together for years, Dam-Funk and Nite Jewel have finally released a full EP — and it's just as good as we thought it would be.

The two Californians first teamed up for the song "Am I Gonna Make It" in 2009, and have collaborated several times since then. "Can U Read Me?" was a gem as one of the best songs of 2015, with Nite Jewel floating over Dam-Funk's silky synths. Two weeks ago, the duo continued their winning streak with "Let Me Be Me" - which, as we noted at the time of its release, sounds like a Janet Jackson cut from the 80s.

On Friday, Nite-Funk - the duo's group name - released an EP that will be perfect for vibing through this holiday weekend. "Let Me Be Me" is included, and the rest of the EP consists of three songs that showcase the best that both artists have to offer: Nite Jewel's airy, sharp vocals, and  Dam-Funk's feel-good synths. For the EP to only be four songs, it's surprisingly well-rounded: "Don't Play Games" is spacey and funky, "Let Me Be Me" is followed by the slow, steamy "Love X2," and "U Can Make Me" is a fun uptempo number. Hopefully the EP can result in a full-length album someday; after all, Dam-Funk has done multiple full-length albums with Snoop Dogg and Steve Arrington before.
