Curtis Mayfield
This past June, the legendary Curtis Mayfield would have celebrated his 70th birthday. The Lincoln Center in New York City has teamed up with the Curtis Mayfield estate for "Here But I'm Gone," an event that will pay tribute to Mayfield and his incredible body of work on Friday, July 20th at 8pm in Avery Fisher Hall.
A 14-piece house band led by Binky Griptite of the Dap-Kings will be joined by The Roots, Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio, Bilal, Meshell Ndegeocello, Aloe Blacc, Sinead O'Connor, Mavis Staples, William Bell and more. The Impressions, the group with which Curtis Mayfield became a household name, will also perform.
