Crate Diggers x DJ Nu-Mark's Record Collection

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

DJ Nu-Mark aka Uncle Nu offers a peek at his massive vinyl collection - roughly 35,000 pieces - and the history behind it. He discusses procuring 20,000 pieces of the collection for $500 - a cost he split with partner Amani Smith aka DJ Burt Blackarach - and details his love for cover art. Having sourced records everywhere, from sales to cereal boxes, Nu-Mark began his career DJing $2 house parties in high school. With his decks set up on an ironing board - the vinyl stacked waist-high on either side - young Nu-Mark and his partners would go through the records one-by-one to keep the party rocking. His collection goes international from Persian 45's to a stack of vinyl born from a jaunt to a plumbing supply store in Cuba. The stash also includes 3" hip-pocket records and Uncle Nu's first party flyer from 1988. With no intention of slowing down, Nu-Mark's latest addition to the stacks comes fresh off a trip to Nashville.
