Cody ChesnuTT on Nina Simone
"Who is Nina Simone?" is a pretty difficult question to answer about a woman who was held so many titles, but Cody ChesnuTT took up the challenge. The okayplayer stalwart recently uploaded a video via Youtube answering the question and describing the many ways she influenced him and his music. "The greatest influence she may have had on me is that she inspired me to be pure in my songs, in my thoughts and in my lyrics," he says. An obvious admirer of the singer, ChesnuTT is taking part in Meshell Ndegeocello's new album, Pour une Âme Souveraine: A Dedication to Nina Simone--and was requested to be on the album by Meshell herself.
