There are currently six confirmed cases of coronavirus in Riverside County.
Coachella has officially been postponed until October according to the New York Times. As previously reported, due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis in Riverside County, the festival will be moved to October 9 to 11 and October 16 to 18.
A new Billboard report notes that temperatures will reach 95 degrees on October 9 and 92 degrees on October 16. In a statement, the festival stated that the move was decided “at the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities.”
In an announcement, Goldenvoice shared all previous purchases for the April dates “will be honored for the rescheduled October dates.” The statement also noted ticket buyers will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to receive a refund if they’re unable to attend.
Earlier today the company behind Austin’s South by Southwest (SxSW) announced it would not be issuing refunds to ticket buyers due to their strict no-refund policy. The festival also reportedly laid off a third of its employees. This could potentially be the fate of Coachella if the October dates don’t come to fruition.
There are currently six confirmed cases of coronavirus in Riverside County. Earlier this week Billboard reported 20,000 music events between January and March have been canceled or postponed in China and Hong Kong. This has cost China a combined amount of $286 million in ticketing and box-office losses.
At the moment confirmed headliners for Coachella include Frank Ocean, Travis Scott and Rage Against the Machine. Megan Thee Stallion, Ari Lennox, Summer Walker and City Girls are also set to perform. Tickets are currently still on sale for the festival online.
