Fredo is a reference to Fredo Corleone, the son of Vito Corleone in The Godfather.

A video has surfaced of CNN's Chris Cuomo getting into a heated exchange at a New York City bar after someone referred to him as Fredo.

"Punk ass bitches from the right call me 'Fredo.' My name is Chris Cuomo, I'm an anchor on CNN," Cuomo can be heard saying in the video, which was shared on Twitter Monday evening.

"Fredo is from The Godfather, he was a weak brother and they use it as an Italian aspersion," he continues. Cuomo is referring to Fredo Corleone, the inept second son of Vito Corleone.

"Any of you Italian?...It's an insult to your f**king people. It's like the N-word for us," Cuomo adds.

The man continues to say that he thought Cuomo's name was Fredo but the anchor doesn't believe him.

"You did not think that...stand up like a man," Cuomo says. "Own what you said."

The exchange then escalates after the anchor tells the man: "I'll f**king throw you down these stairs like a f**king punk… you're gonna call me Fredo, take a f**king swing? I’ll f**king wreck your s**t."

CNN later released a statement supporting the anchor: "Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup. We completely support him."

Donald Trump added himself into the discussion between Cuomo and the man when he tweeted the following Tuesday morning: "I thought Chris was Fredo also. The truth hurts. Totally lost it! Low ratings @CNN."

Although many have come to the defense of Cuomo and said he was provoked by the man, they also disagree with him equating the name Fredo to a racial slur.
