Ex-Hot 97 DJ Cipha Sounds Has Signed With Roc Nation

When the news broke that Cipha Sounds was leaving legendary NYC hip-hop radio station Hot 97, much was left to the unknown. Would he follow fellow 97 defector Angie Martinez to Power 105? Or would Sounds find an entirely new place in which to interface with artists and continue his career as one of the most well-established interviewers in all of hip-hop culture? The answer, surprising as it may be, is here: Ciph is headed to the Roc.

In a tweet posted late last week, The Roc Nation confirmed that it has signed Cipha Sounds to its artists roster, where he will be managed by York-Hill's Neil Sirni. Sounds's move confirms that he is indeed on a similar track to Martinez, who also signed with Jay-Z's label conglomerate last year. The DJ also mentioned his signing on Instagram, posting multiple photos and comments expressing his excitement. "This is just the beginning. These Roc people have no idea what they're in for. I got TTTTOOOOOO many ideas. Thanks for letting me in," sounds wrote in one caption. The move may have indeed been in the works for quite some time--during his departure from Hot 97 the soon-to-be Roc citizen posted an online comment stating "“After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I’m changing my relationship status from ‘it’s complicated’ to ‘single.’ It’s been an amazing ride — from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie’s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge.”
