Chance The Rapper Honors Muhammad Ali At The ESPYs w/ Debut Of New Song

This morning Chance The Rapper announced that he'd be paying tribute to late boxing legend, Muhammad Ali. Little did we know that he'd also take the opportunity to debut a new song while he was at it. With fellow Chicagoans (and Social Experiment members) Peter Cottontale, Jamila Woods, Donnie Trumpet and an entire choir in tow, Chano brought his spirited stylings to new heights, stretching out as a vocalist and leading the band like few have. Call it a moment of redemption for his generation (looking at you, Rich Homie Quan) or merely catching the spirit, but this writer will call it one of the most profoundly touching and devastatingly poignant tributes ever witnessed on an awards show. And a great like Ali could not be better suited to receive it.

Make no mistake, with this performance Chance The Rapper proves he's earned every bit of praise that's come his way over the years, embodying the balance of inspiration and innovation we'd hoped would arrive in hip-hop's new guard. The culture has found another torchbearer, no question about it. What a time to be alive. Watch it down below with a tissue ready.
