OKP Premiere: Candice Anitra Amazes In Her Colorful New Video For "Narcissus"

Snow, strange shadows and unexpected hues are all at work in Candice Anitra's new video for "Narcissus," which tells the story of a love that's become all but extinguished. Anitra and her (former?) man appear utterly alone in the clip, haunted by a connection that's fading quicker than a weak wood fire in winter. Dance and body art both augment the story, with the R&B singer appearing painted-up and wistful in numerous shots; these are visuals you won't soon forget.

"Narcissus" exemplifies the theme of Candice Anitra's most recent project, a double EP release that brings her very best work, old and new, together. Entitled Narcissus // Echo, it calls upon romantic myths (technically Greek, but who's counting?) to question our 21st century notions of happiness and retrain a little focus on matters of the heart. Good and bad, easy and so very painful, these ideas make their way into every aspect of the music and have lead to a project that's modern in its sound but historic in its themes.

“The EPs are mirrors into the dark spots and the shadowed self,” Candice Anitra explained. “We need to talk,” she says with an air of immediacy. “We need to be uncomfortable for a little bit.” A record that unabashedly attends to anxiety, deep pleasure and regret, Anitra is holding up a mirror to all of us. That’s the root. I want people to deconstruct all that, put it all back together again, and create some new ways of being in the process. It’s about time. It’s overdue.” Watch the new video in full below, purchase Narcissus // Echo on iTunes today--it just dropped--and find information on her upcoming NYC release show below.
