Audio: Melanie Fiona x John Legend - "L.O.V.E."

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

For many of us, a John Legend collaboration was probably the first instance in which we heard the name Melanie Fiona--and the voice that goes with it (I'm going to go ahead and feel special for a sec because the first time I heard her voice was a few years before that in the Miami studio of Black Chiney producer Supa Dups). Seems fitting then, that there will be a sequel of sorts on her new LP the MF Life, which drops tomorrow March 20th. With it's classic soul chords and conscious message, that track "L.O.V.E." feels like a natural extension of the themes on Wake Up!--his collaborative LP with The Roots that featured the original duet. And like a lot of things Legend touches, it will remind you of some of your favorite soul music--for me, tunes by Aretha Franklin, Ohio Players and Gladys Knight came to mind--without being able to place a specific sound or melody. "L.O.V.E." will apparently be the closing track on The MF Life, which Fiona has said she wanted to have "a nice, positive ending." Pre-order on iTunes here.
