Apollo Brown & Your Old Droog Call Out Drug Abusers On "Not That Guy"
With his upcoming Grandeur LP looming on the release-date horizon, Detroit producer Apollo Brown has dropped off a brand new single. Dusty on all its surfaces, "Not That Guy" features a gorgeous Jaggers sample and lyrical work from Brooklyn MC Your Old Droog and very quickly reveals itself to be a straight edge anthem of sorts. At its center is a man controlled by substance addictions, a friend steadily vanishing into the dark and silent life of an addict who would rather pop pills at home than meet his homies out and about. It's both moving and brusque; Droog offers criticism but isn't about to sit around and wait for someone who can't take the time to take care of themselves. It's all right there in the hook:
Your man who stopped caring about his gear and wouldn't even try / He don't wanna get flyUsed to hit up Flight Club for rare Jordans to buy / Now all he wanna do is get high
It's sad being in the crib with no women / Only the guys
All that E and Molly he try he probably buy
Never come around and talk about you triyng to get high
I'm not the guy, I don't do drugs ya heard?
Grandeur arrives on September 25th via Mello Music Group and features guest appearances from Freddie Gibbs, Oddisee, Sean Price, Rapper Big Pooh, Evidence and others, Droog included. Preorder it on iTunes today, and take "Not That Guy" to heart.
