Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Debut Twitch Stream Raked in Nearly 5 Million Views

The U.S. representative's Twitch live stream is currently one of the biggest debuts to ever hit the platform.

Politicians are doing whatever it takes to garner votes these days. On Tuesday night, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez played a popular sci-fi murder mystery game Among Us live on Twitch and raked in nearly 5 million views.

The U.S. representative’s live stream debut on the platform is one of the biggest debuts to ever hit the platform, per CNN. Last night, the stream was only at 435,000 views, making it among the 20 biggest streams on the website. This data was pulled from the third-party Twitch metrics site TwitchTracker

Ocasio-Cortez was joined by representative Ilhan Abdullahi Omar in an attempt to convince streamers to practice their right to vote in the forthcoming presidential election. The two weren’t the sole participants in the stream, others included  @hasanthehun, @DisguisedToast, @DrLupo, @TSM_Myth, @mxmtoon, @Jack_Septic_Eye, and @MoistCr1TiKaL. With the assistance of these heavily followed streamers live-sharing Ocasio-Cortez, the views shot up in less than 24 hours.

This isn’t Ocasio-Cortez's time joining the platform, last year she called into a fundraiser stream. Since creating her own account, she’s acquired 545,000 followers.

Throughout Ocasio-Cortez’s time on Twitch last night, she directed viewers to IWillVote.com. She also shared, “That's really what tonight's all about, and of course we are here to vote blue.” This was a clear pointer that voters should place their allegiance to the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Joe Biden.

Myth who is the fourth most followed Twitch user with 6.97 million followers joined the stream last night. According to CNN, this election will be his first time voting. After the stream ended, he tweeted, “It was nice playing with @AOC tonight! Thank you all for coming out and watching. Remember to vote this election as well. This election is my first time voting and its super easy to do so do it.”

Hopefully, this pivot to Twitch orchestrated by the Democratic Party and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pays off in some way. Only time will tell. If you'd like to watch AOC's 3.5-hour live stream, head here.
