Akon is back, via this rare excursion into machine-gun jazz that he laced for the one Salaam Remi. The song is a scorcher but Salaam himself is officially on a rampage. I got a chance to sit with the superproducer a few weeks ago and listen to the new Mack Wilds album--and being the music head that he is, Salaam proceeded to spend an hour or two just running through joints from the vault that he was planning to give the light of day via one of his two label imprints, including this Akon tune. This one is for his Living Out Loud imprint, as is the Mack Wilds project but Flying Buddha just got off to a great start, of course, with the official release of Hiatus Kaiyote's Tawk Tomahawk, Salaam throwing in some clout via a Q-Tip cameo. And you don't even want to know about where Remi is going to take the new material from foundational UK reggae singer Liam Bailey. I can't even tell you, Suffice it to say: Mad. He's got so much extra duty tuff business coming out via so many different channels, in fact, 2014 might be remembered as the year the big man stepped out from the mixing booth and into the light. And when the smoke clears, he'll still have more than one in the chamber. Listen below:
