I suppose it's no secret now that A Tribe Called Quest will be reissuing their era-defining debut People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm next month. What you didn't know, is that the 25th anniversary revamp will come complete with remixes of some of your favorite cuts by legends of today. Our first taste of those reworked gems comes from Pharrell, who has long been a devout member of the Tribe legion, injecting some sprawling synth-scapes and a rock-solid shuffle into ATCQ's slow-jonesing hip-hop ballad "Bonita Applebum" to give you a proper dose of the feels this lovely Tuesday morning, accented by the appropriate Neptunes bleeps and bloops.
Listen, I wouldn't dare call this an improvement over the original, but it's always interesting to see what students will do with their teacher's work. And to be honest, it's not half-bad. But we'll see just what the reissue has to offer when it finally arrives November 13th with even more remixes from the likes of Cee Lo, J. Cole & Raphael Saadiq.
