NBA Youngboy’s New Orleans show descended into a chaotic scene after some fans tried to storm the arena once there were no more tickets. According to NOLA.com, the Baton Rouge rapper was performing at Smoothie King Center on Monday, Oct. 20, for his second sold-out concert when some fans without tickets tried to force their way in.
Security locked down the doors and temporarily stopped admitting anyone – even those who were legitimate ticketholders. Videos shared across showed fans clustered near closed doors or running to them.
“Kids were running around just crazy,” said Justin Brown, a former police officer who founded and runs the non-profit Empower You NOLA. “People stormed inside multiple times, pushing themselves in.”
Mike Hoss, media relations manager for the Smoothie King Center and Caesars Superdome management company Legends Global, issued a statement.
"We can confirm that non-ticketed patrons attempted to enter the Smoothie King Center after the headline artist had taken the stage,” Hoss said. “It is important to note that all the non-ticketed fans had already passed through our enhanced security screening procedures, so there was no compromise or breach of the venue’s secured perimeter.
The situation was quickly brought under control by venue personnel and the NOPD, and the non-ticketed fans were dispersed. The concert continued through its full duration without any interruption or incident."
Videos from the event showed people breaking through gaps in the security barricades to join others outside an arena entrance.
NBA Youngboy’s Make America Slime Again Tour has been a hit with fans. Back in May, he was granted a pardon from President Donald Trump. In 2024, the Louisiana rapper, born Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, was sentenced by a federal judge in Utah to just under two years in prison on gun-related charges after he acknowledged having possessed weapons despite being a convicted felon.
According to the Associated Press, Youngboy reached an agreement that resolved the Utah state charges against him and settled two sets of federal charges against him — one carried a 23-month sentence and the other ordered 5 years of probation and a $200,000 fine. Gaulden was released from federal prison back in March and ended his sentence with home confinement, with credit for time served.
