Janelle Monáe worked with the Purple One on her new album 

Last week, Janelle Monáe dropped two new singles: the hard-hitting “Django Jane” and the sensual “Make Me Feel.” With “Me Me Feel,” you can instantly picked up the Prince influence .

It turns out the song wasn’t just influence by The Purple One; Prince actually worked on the song.

Prince’s DJ, Lenka Paris, revealed the news over the weekend in a now-deleted Facebook post. Paris said she recognized the synth line used in Monáe’s new song, and knew instantly that Prince created it and played it for years ago:

Janelle has made it known that Prince had a big impact on her upcoming album Dirty Computer album. In interviews with The Guardian and BBC Monáe talked about the role the legendary artist played on the album.

She told the BBC:

“Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. I really miss him, it’s hard for me to talk about him.”

In her interview with The Guardian, Janelle talked about the impact Prince had on her career:

“I wouldn’t be as comfortable with who I am if it had not been for Prince. I mean, my label Wondaland would not exist without Paisley Park coming before us.”

Dirty Computer, Janelle Monáe’s first album in five years, comes out on April 27th.
