“During hardships like this, we have to lean on each other for help.”
Last night, Global Citizen‘s One World: Together at Home special rallied marquee musicians to raise spirits and donations for COVID-19 relief.
For his set, Stevie Wonder paid tribute to friend and fellow soul pioneer, Bill Withers, with a brief performance of the late musician’s seminal “Lean On Me,” followed by a rousing rendition of his own Songs in The Key of Life opener, “Love’s in Need of Love Today.” A heartwarming salute, the performance harked back to 2015, when Wonder inducted Withers into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, joining him on stage with John Legend later in the evening to perform a pair of the late songwriter’s classics. It would prove to be Withers’ final performance.
The star-studded Together At Home roster also featured Pharrell Williams, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Alicia Keys, Lizzo, Lady Gaga, LL Cool J, and dozens of others, helping the organization raise more than $127 million for healthcare workers and the WHO.
