The livestream show was hosted by Eric Andre and featured beamed-in appearances from Pharrell, Zack de la Rocha, Mavis Staples, Gangsta Boo and more.
Run The Jewels returned last night to rally fans and prospective voters with a gripping, neon-crushed, live performance of their new album, RTJ4.
Partnering with Ben & Jerry’s, Killer Mike and El-P livestreamed a pre-recorded performance of the album on Adult Swim, featuring beamed-in appearances from the album’s full roster of guests, including Pharrell, Zack de la Rocha, Mavis Staples, 2 Chainz, Josh Homme, and Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, as well as live, in-person showings from Gangsta Boo and Greg Nice. Hosted by Eric Andre, the benefit show had a voter registration component and collected donations for the ACLU, bringing in nearly $8,000 for the non-profit as of this afternoon.
The performance, which was recorded in a warehouse with no audience in attendance, marked RTJ4‘s first live run. Originally announced in October of 2018, the album was finally released on June 3rd of this year, landing two days earlier than its planned release date as an act of solidarity with the protestors demonstrating against police brutality in the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.
Alongside the livestream show, Ben & Jerry’s has launched a voter pledge sweepstakes, offering a Run The Jewels prize package that includes a hoodie, all four RTJ albums on vinyl, a year’s supply of ice cream, and Killer Mike’s personal pair of the ever-coveted limited edition Nike SB Chunky Dunkys in a size 13.
