A fitting celebration of the late NOLA legend.

Earlier this week, Malcolm John Rebennak -- better known to most as the iconic Dr. John -- died at the age of 77 after suffering a fatal heart attack. And yesterday, New Orleans wasted no time in sending Rebennak off with an absolutely massive second line procession in the city's' Tremé district.

According to Billboard, the tributary march was announced by Kermit Ruffins, commencing outside of his Mother-in-Law Lounge, and eventually filling streets and sidewalks alike with thousands of spectators and musicians, including the pioneer's granddaughter, Stephanie O'Quin. Clips from the scene display an outpouring of love from the city, as the crowd swelled to epic proportions and the band played selections from Rebennak's towering catalog, spanning half the damn century.

Even with local luminaries like Louis Armstrong, The Meters, and Fats Domino, all engrained in NOLA's rich musical history, Dr. John remains one of the city's most revered (and decorated) ambassadors.
