Wait, Did Sheila E. Just Announce a Prince Biopic?

The former Prince collaborator teased a film about the "beautiful story" of their time together.

If we're to take Sheila E. by her word, there's a new Prince biopic in development. And it centers on her relationship with the late icon.

Announced in a short post on Facebook (see below,) the film is titled Girl Meets Boy and it's about "the beautiful story of her time with Prince." Barring any sort of conceptual angle (which it could very well take to avoid a legal run-in with the artist's estate,) the film would presumably take place at some point between their late-70s introduction and her departure from The Paisley Park operation in 1989.

The percussionist first joined forces with Prince during the Purple Rain sessions in 1983-84, singing back-up vocals on "Erotic City," years after they crossed paths at one of her father's shows. She went on to join a segment of the blockbuster album's tour as an opening act, supporting her own debut album, The Glamorous Life, for which Prince wrote three of the six songs. They'd link again on her signature single "A Love Bizarre" in 1985, appearing in his Sign O' The Times film in 1987 and serving as his musical director until she parted ways with the Paisley Park organization altogether in 1989 after their brief engagement was called off.

Prince and Sheila E. reunited in 2007 for a string of performances and upon his 2016 death, she released several tributary songs in commemoration, one of which shares a title with the film she's allegedly working on. The other, "Lemon Cake," released last year, drew criticism from Purple Rain's Apollonia, who charged the musician with "using Prince in death."

See Sheila E.'s announcement of the film below and hold tight for details to arrive in the weeks and months ahead.
