Unreleased Whitney Houston Demo Heads to Auction as an NFT

An NFT of a song Whitney Houston cut when she was just 17-years-old is going to the highest bidder.

Whitney Houston's estate is trying its hand at the nascent, yet rapidly expanding, NFT market.

Partnering with OneOf, the late singer's estate has released a collection of archival material and newly created pieces from 17-year-old digital artist Diana Sinclair. On top of the visual art, the estate is also offering a previously unreleased demo by Houston, which was recorded when the singer was just 17-years-old. The demo is set to be auctioned off to the highest bidder with a starting price of $117,000.

Announced earlier this week in Miami, the 24-hour auction will take place on December 13th. Proceeds from the auction and all sales will be donated to the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, a youth-focused non-profit organization established by the estate to "rebuild lives, restore self-esteem, and repair images through grassroots programs and initiatives."

"Before shooting, I spent a lot of time consuming not only the music that Whitney sang, but also the visuals that surrounded her," Sinclair says of her work on the collection. "Whether that be from photoshoots or her music videos, I saw a common theme in a lot of her work, the empowerment of Black women," Sinclair adds.

You can see the full NFT collection via OneOf. And if you're in the right tax bracket, registration for the auction is live.
