Trina has revealed that she’s interested in setting up a Verzuz battle with Lil’ Kim.
The Southern hip-hop icon could have been inspired by the recent Verzuz featuring the Ghostface Killah and Raekwon. In a newly released clip, the Miami rapper shared that she’d like to go hit-for-hit against Lil’ Kim.
In the clip that was pulled from an interview with 105.3 The Beat radio station in Atlanta Trina shared:
“Kim is that bitch, let’s be very clear. When I came into the industry, this is who I looked up to. This is the lyrics that I recited. Therefore I would feel like that’s equivalent because Kim is legendary and she [has] mad records. I won’t even feel like it’s a competition, it’s a family thing.”
She also added that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland haven’t reached out to her about a potential Verzuz.
Lil’ Kim and Trina both have respected catalogs that speak to their spots in the female rap canon. Hardcore dropped in 1996 while, Da Baddest Bitch arrived in 2000. The latter was proof that the Southern music industry could keep up with the direction hip-hop was going. Some fans took to Twitter to express that the Verzuz battle wouldn’t be fair as Lil’ Kim’s catalog has more hits. But, depending on where you grew up, your loyalty might lean towards Southern legends like Trina, Mia X, Khia and Shawnna.

“The ONLY logical person for Trina to go against is KHIA. They can do that on IG live so nobody gets shot.”— 3/5 🎈♓️ (@3/5 🎈♓️) 1616622917
If the two decide to battle it out Verzuz style, that’d be new territory as years ago the duo weren’t on good terms. After 10 years of disharmony, the rappers reconciled following a chance meeting at a Lil’ Kim show in 2019 following the death of her father.
In a photo shared on Instagram, she wrote, "On this very day I found out my Daddy passed away. I was so distraught and had to put on a brave face and keep working because I had a show that same night. When @trinarockstarr came into my dressing room we instantly bonded. She comforted me and it was exactly what I needed in that moment. It’s as if her Mom and my Dad brought us together and healed our friendship. We both have angels watching over us."
Stay tuned here for updates on this potential Verzuz.
