Tina Turner gave a revealing new interview
In a new interview with The Times of London, legendary performer Tina Turner has revealed that she has forgiven her ex-husband Ike for years of physical and emotional abuse.
When asked about Ike, Tina told the publication:
As an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him…He asked for one more tour with me, and I said, ‘No, absolutely not.’ Ike wasn’t someone you could forgive and allow him back in. It’s all gone, all forgotten.
Tina went on to say that she still thinks about Ike. However, the memories are mostly good:
I don’t know what the dreams are about…The dreams are still there — not the violence, the anger. I wonder if I’m still holding something in.
Ike and Tina Turner were married from 1962 to 1977. Their turbulent relationship was famously displayed in the 1993 movie What’s Love Got to Do with It, which showed how violent Ike was. However, in his 2001 autobiography Takin’ Back My Name, Ike said some of what was displayed was exaggerated.
Sure, I’ve slapped Tina. There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I never beat her.
Ike Turner died in 2007 of a cocaine overdose.
