Hear Theophilus London and Tame Impala Cover an African Boogie Classic
Theophilus London has spent much of 2018 hyping the imminent arrival of a collaborative project with Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. And last night, Virgil Abloh confirmed the link-up, premiering the "Theo Impala" redux of Steve Monite's Nigerian boogie grail, "Only You," on his Beats 1 Radio show.
Originally released in 1984, the track was reintroduced on Soundway Records' 2016 compilation, Doing It In Lagos, and was previously covered by Frank Ocean on a limited run of tour dates in support of Endless and blond(e)d the following year. According to Stereogum, the Theo Impala version was premiered alongside another track from the collaborative project, "Whiplash," though no official release date has been announced yet.
